‘Sony Ericsson World Gaming Day’ – Today the world will Game!


‘Sony Ericsson World Gaming Day’ reached out to over 10 million gamers with a multimedia youth connect

Mumbai, 12th February, 2009: Three Gaming giants – Sony Ericsson, Zapak.com and Xbox 360 joined hands to celebrate a never before initiative – ‘World Gaming Day’ on 12th February 2009. ‘World Gaming Day’ is the largest ever youth connect initiative undertaken to celebrate the spirit of gaming which was celebrated across the globe today.

The celebrations for ‘World Gaming Day’ which went on for 4 weeks reached to over 10 million gamers from across the world with a multimedia youth connect programme. ‘World Gaming Day’ witnessed over 19 million gameplays from gamers to participate in the online tournament. The top 10 countries which participated in the initiative are India, USA, UAE, Pakistan, UK, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Canada, and Singapore.

All gaming enthusiasts were present at the event to celebrate the ‘World Gaming Day’. Today the winners of the gaming tournament got a chance to play against the Bollywood young guns spotted in high enthusiasm Madhavan and Neetu Chandra.

Commenting on ‘World Gaming Day’ Madhavan said, “Gaming is fun and I have always had a gamer in me. I am very happy to be here today and be a part of the celebrations of the ‘World Gaming Day’ and dedicate my time to something I genuinely love doing.”

To this, Actress Neetu Chandra added, “I am glad that Sony Ericsson, Zapak and Xbox 360 have taken such an initiative and gave the gamers across the world a day to celebrate. I enjoy gaming on my phone and I believe it’s coming up as an entertainment option.”

There were various contests and activities involved in the celebration for ‘World Gaming Day’ which included mall activities, championships at Zapak Gameplexes and an online contest. To participate, users logged on to www.zapak.com and started gaming.

A day-long, open-to-all, game-a-thon was organized for gamers to participate in various contests and championships across all three gaming platforms – Mobile phone, PC’s and consoles. There were on the spot goody bags and freebies distributed to the participants.

Zapakworld.com – Zapak’s global portal available in 6 languages got gamers across the world to join in the celebration. Casual Games Association – the official representative of the casual game industry of the world has joined hands with us on this initiative as well to promote ‘World Gaming Day’
